Cooling system design flaw |
0km/0mi; 22-Oct-09 23:58 |
| Is there a serious design flaw with the Beta cooling system design? I have had a thorough look over the system, as we have pretty much replaced every component in the system, and I can find nowhere for the pressure to release. The expansion tank has a pressure cap but even if the pressure builds enough to compress the spring in the cap there is nowhere for the pressure to be released. After constant overheating I drilled a hole in the neck of the expansion tank and we have had no overheating problems since. |

Head gasket woes |
0km/0mi; 22-Oct-09 23:52 |
| The scooter has had a coolant leak near the thermostat housing for some time now and I finally decided to do something about it. I ended up replacing the hose from the thermostat housing to the radiator and that looks much better now. At the same time I was going to do an oil change and when I drained the oil it was brown and way over full, which also explains much of the coolant loss. I suspect a blown head gasket although I guess it could also be a cracked head. Either way we are trying to order a head gasket from Kymco dealers in the USA but have so far had no luck. |

Scooter won't start |
0km/0mi; 22-Oct-09 23:49 |
| We were unable to start the scooter at all. After much investigation it appears that the electronic device that handles the cold start at the top of the carburettor was not working which either blocked that passage in the carburettor or left it open too far. The scooter would start fine without the device. I couldn't find the part available anywhere and it appears you have to buy the entire carburettor. Instead I decided to remove the innards of this device and put it back in place where it now functions only as a seal. The scooter starts well in all weather now. |
